1. Christ the Redeemer

The number one sightseeing, the statue of the Christ the Redeemer is the symbol of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The statue is situated on top of Corcovado Mountain. Christ the Redeemer is standing with the arms outstretched and is calmly looking over the magnificent city. Before, the spectators had to climb hundreds of stairs on the way up, but thankfully, today, elevators make it practically effortless to get to the top. 2. Copacabana

4. Maracana Stadium

Maracana is one of the biggest stadiums in the world, with a reduced capacity of 74,738 spectators (originally was built for 200,000 people). 5. Sugarloaf Mountain

Another place with a staggering view over the city is the prominent ‘pão de açucar’ (Sugarloaf Mountain). This mountain is alpinists’ paradise. The peak of the mountain can be reached via a cable car. Halfway up the passage, on the mountain, there are some nice restaurants and galleries.
